The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States against five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
