The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Feedback

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete text from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a more distinct vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having spent the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.

David
